The use of WordPress in non-profit websites gets more popular by the day

March 10, 2017

The number of WordPress sites on the web has increased in the last year.  Currently, it powers somewhere between 25% and 27% of the whole web. There is a good reason for this and it lies in the fact that WordPress is not only a free platform to build simple blogs, but one that can also be easily used for more complex sites.

More and more bloggers, entrepreneurs and website owners in general turn to this CMS. Among them, it is easy to find many different types of organizations, including nonprofits and charities.

The spirit of the WordPress community

The WordPress community is a very friendly one and prides itself in its open source spirit. There are many free plugins and themes in the repository to build powerful and complete websites. This also explains why it is a favourite tool for charities.

The open source spirit is not only restricted to the free plugins and themes, it also shows up in the premium plugins. Their developers and companies like to lend a hand and donate free subscriptions to these great non-profit organizations.

How we help

Here at OnTheGoSystems, we have also been giving our share for some time now and as it turns out, our non-profit program is becoming more popular by the day.

When I started to work here, nearly 5 years ago, there were around 50 non-profit applications for the free use of our plugin – every week. Nowadays, I am astonished to see how the number of applicants has increased. I don’t dare say that we get 50 a day, but we are almost there!

For us, it is a nice thing to do – review all the applications from these very nice people and offer a free subscription to those that meet the requirements. The beneficiaries are very happy and they always reply in gratitude.

This not only shows that WPML is the plugin to make your website multilingual, but also proves two other nice facts:

  1. WordPress has been and continues to be an-easy-to use website builder for non-techies (like charities)
  2. More and more people are becoming engaged in helping others in need, no matter how far away they are located.

Here are a few websites displaying the WPML logo and a thank-you note for helping them in their noble cause.
